Kathmandu University
Embark on an unforgettable journey with our “Semester in Nepal” study abroad program hosted by Kathmandu University, where academic pursuit meets adventure!
Our unique ways of combining western science education with eastern philosophy and spiritual practice exposes our students to transformative learning experiences in Nepal that can be found nowhere else.
Nestled among the breathtaking peaks of the Himalayas, Nepal offers a unique blend of cultural richness, historical depth, and natural beauty unlike anywhere else in the world.
Through custom designed experiences in the classroom and in the field, our curriculum synthesizes the semester into a coherent learning narrative. Students activate their own bodies, minds, and spirits as the learning context.
A 3-Phase Experience:
1. Pre-Experience: Where you will e-meet fellow students, bond, and prepare for your experience in
Nepal via online learning sessions. This involves your instructors and guides, curricular materials, and activities to build excitement!
2. The Experience: The semester in Nepal including all four courses, trekking in the Himalayas, yoga practice and dozens of activities (including creation of your own personal documentary short film about your experiences).
3. Post-Experience: Where meaning-making and learning synthesis occurs. You will individually and collectively narrate your experiences, finalize your coursework products, get college credit, and cement your life-long friendships with each other and new friends in Nepal.
You will:
-
Build your understanding of Nepal as a place, by drawing comparisons and contrasts with your own places of origin and experience.
-
Deeply examine your own identity in order to understand the people and cultures of Nepal, and thereby expand your own sense-of-self as new friends of the Nepali people you meet.
-
Experience yogic science and practices to more deeply explore Hindu culture and history.
-
Utilize your own body as a scientific laboratory to examine physiological changes at altitude, including trekking in the Himalayas and Kathmandu Valley.
-
Explore health & wellness in a new and rich multidimensional way.
