Turning Leaders
Into Experience Designers

Africa
Science-Learning Journeys

Serving practicing teachers and education graduate students for over 5 years,  Brad and his colleagues have designed and led multiple expeditions to Tanzania and Kenya, with support from the Merck Company Foundation and using the ELVIS Framework.  These experiences featured collaborations with African schools and AIDS orphanages, exploration of the Serengeti, work with the Jane Goodall Institute, and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. This video features a summary from one such expedition. 5 Minutes.

Experience Design In Action

Experience Design Leadership and the ELVIS Framework are rooted in the psychology of learning.  The following projects showcase Brad's work in education with universities, K12 schools, foundations, and through his XSci lab (Experiential Science Education Research Collaborative).  His education work serves both students and educators, to co-create transformative experiences.

Bayer International Teen
Science Camp

Welcoming 14-16 year-olds from several countries, Brad and his team designed and led this project using Experience Design Leadership and the ELVIS Framework. It was the flagship program for the Bayer Corporate Foundation for 6 years (prior to COVID), featuring medical and environmental science, cultural exchange, and student identity development for over a hundred kids.

These brave teachers experienced weightlessness just like astronauts ... and then took it back to their classrooms using the elements of Experience Design Leadership. This clip is from the documentary film Brad directed.

Roots & Shoots Colorado

In collaboration with the Jane Goodall Institute and many regional sponsors, Brad led the development of "Roots & Shoots Colorado" -- a state-wide initiative to coordinate Colorado's many R&S groups and to spark new ones at all K20 grade-levels.  R&S design rubric for Compassionate Leadership was informed by Brad's ELVIS Framework for identity development in experience design. This video served as a program marketing tool for over 3 years.

Remembering Jane

While serving on the board of directors for the Jane Goodall Institute and chairing the Roots & Shoots Leadership Committee for the United States, Brad helped to bring Jane to Boulder Colorado on October 1, 2015 -- 10 years to the day of Jane's passing.  This video tribute includes the "Just Jane" trailer and the Gombe Grove project (designed with the ELVIS Framework). Hundreds of middle school kids from dozens of Roots & Shoots clubs all over Colorado researched Jane's life and work, experienced her story in person, and planted trees with her dedicated to the chimpanzees she worked with in Africa.  Goodbye Jane.  We love you.
